Our Mission to protect the public interest is the driving force behind our efforts in the government affairs arena. NHCAA regularly offers its perspective as a subject matter expert on legislative and regulatory developments that could impact health care fraud fighting. We provide insight about the issue of health care fraud to Congress, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, various federal and state agencies and others. We record our views publicly through comment letters, testimony and our media outreach program and NHCAA Government Affairs also works to cultivate strategic partnerships with key public interest groups and other professional associations.
We track and report on pertinent legislative and regulatory activities at the state and federal levels and maintain a catalog accessible by members of statutes and regulations relevant to the anti-fraud field. The Lens, our government affairs e-newsletter, keeps NHCAA members regularly apprised of news and developments at the Federal and state levels which could impact or be of interest to the health care fraud fighting profession. Additionally, NHCAA white papers have assisted, and continue to assist, policy makers with the many health care fraud issues, particularly those surrounding health care reform.
NHCAA Board members and executive staff have been very active on the public policy stage the past few years, receiving invitations from Congress and federal Cabinet Secretaries to appear and testify at public meetings regarding health care fraud. NHCAA participated in the landmark National Health Care Fraud Summit in January 2010 and each of the subsequent Regional Health Care Fraud Prevention Summits-all jointly sponsored by the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services.
